Visual artist / co-director PALAVA arts collective

Claire is an Australian artist based in Toulouse, France and is currently working in acrylics and oils on canvas. Still life painting has become her main focus, fascinated by the interplay of colour, shape and light. Her process of creating still life paintings begins with collecting, gathering bric-a-brac, flowers, fabrics. Some of these items come from her natural surroundings, tucked away in secondhand stores, others from her mother’s house, a friend’s backyard sale. They are the ordinary objects found within our domestic interiors; belongings that add beauty to a room, markers of a specific time and place. They are the possessions we choose to fill our homes, telling stories of memory and connection.

Both the real and imaginative weave their way into her paintings as she continues to explore composition and colour, leaning into a more intuitive and emotionally inspired space. Working from her home studio, Claire is currently working on some new works after her sold out solo show, “The Sun Is Supposed To Go Down” in June 2024.
